TIRED Movement

The TIRED Movement is Trying to Improve Racial Equality in Dance. Founded in 2020 by Stacey Green and Laura Grant, TIRED continues to drive positive change across the dance and performing arts industry by improving racial equality, equity and representation across all areas of the dance sector.

TIRED was ultimately born out of listening to performers who were exhausted by the same barriers, the same inequities, and the same unanswered calls for change. TIRED is a response to those voices, with one clear mission: to create a fairer, more inclusive dance world where every performer is seen, supported, and represented.

Shades Dancewear was then launched in 2023 as one of the answers to that mission. Again and again, the same challenges surfaced through TIRED – lack of representation, limited access, and systems that weren’t built for everyone. Shades Dancewear now exists because of those conversations, and because real change requires action, not just intention.

We believe deeply that the dance world can be better, but we also know we can’t do it alone.
