All actors know the importance of eating healthy. If you are going to have the energy to get through long days of shooting or worse, endless rehearsals, you need to treat your body right. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation out there regarding what is good for you and what isn’t. Many people believe that the best approach is to simply look for food that contains low or no fat. However, the key to maintaining a healthy diet is to eat good fats.

Why fat?

Fat is one of the richest sources of energy, which is why it is crucial to incorporate it into your diet if you are an actor. Fat can be classified as polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, and saturated, based on their chemical structure. It is important to consume the right type of fat if you are to maintain a healthy weight and get the energy boost you need. Eat the wrong type of fat, and you’ll find yourself gaining weight and feeling lethargic.

What types of fats are good fats?

So, what types of fat should you be eating? Unsaturated fats, i.e. polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, are advised. These sorts of food can control blood sugar, lower your risk of heart diseases, and improve blood cholesterol levels. Examples include fatty fish, such as tuna and salmon, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, walnuts, natural peanut butter, almonds, olives, and avocados.

To incorporate these types of fat into your diet, you simply need to make little changes. For example, you should swap the likes of high sugar breakfast cereals for natural yoghurt, fruits and seeds. You could also swap biscuits and cakes for a handful of unsalted nuts. This is a great type of snack to take along with you for a day’s filming to get the energy boost you need.
